CALLED WOMAN...CALLED SUCCESS
This past weekend has been the culmination of a year of planning and preparing to share the spirit of resources and encouragement to other women entrepreneurs who have a dream or a passion and want to make it happen.
On Saturday, my colleagues Lynne Watts and Kim Wiggins joined me in hosting the 2nd. annual CALLED WOMAN CONFERENCE and are still beaming from the wonderful comments those who attended shared with us!
Our speakers shared not just their stories, suggestions and strategies but sometimes even their souls as everyone poured every effort into guiding those who want to make a dream a reality.
I watched total strangers hug, share tears and cheer each other on. I saw women who reported never being able to share in front of anyone, open up as though they had always done so. I witnessed individuals who had changed careers two, three, sometimes five times on their way to discover their true passion share their amazing stories but my words will never do justice,
My colleague and sweet friend, Lynne Watts has already shared this story better than I ever could. To see the pictures and read more check it out here.
It was everything and more. We all learned something and became better people with a larger dream and a bigger vision because of what we shared.
Thank you Lynne and Kim and every wonderful woman who felt "called" to this conference.
There is something amazing about being among people who have discovered their fire, ignited it and now want you to be able to do the same.
How about you? Do you want a CALLED WOMAN CONFERENCE to come to your city and get your dreams ignited?

Post Oscar....Could You Be the Next Big Thing?
Best Actress Academy Awards (Photo credit: cliff1066™)
The gowns were outstanding and the pomp and effects, dazzling. Last night the 85th Academy Awards gave the famous Oscars to the actors, directors, cinematographers, costume designers and all those who made the wonderful entertainment we enjoy possible.
Looking at the amazing men and women who were nominated and those who earned the honor of bringing home an Oscar seems like a fairytale coming true. We imagine how fabulous it must be to earn so much money for doing something these individuals love doing. They have the "good life" because that is what is shown yet the back story, the work behind the scenes, the countless rejections and the low paying jobs held to just survive while hoping to make it to the big time are not mentioned.
Sure, there are the famous actors and actresses whose parents got their foot in the door, but for many, having their dream come true took incredibly hard work and a lot of personal sacrifice and often years and years of patience and persistence.
Fifteen years ago, Tom Hanks was working in Cleveland, Ohio in the lead role of the Taming of the Shrew for a Shakespearean Festival. George Clooney, even with a famous aunt, cleaned theaters, cut tobacco and worked construction jobs to pay for acting lessons. Ellen Degeneres worked at a carwash.Vince Vaughn worked as a telemarketer. Amy Adams worked at Hooters and Brad Pitt stood on the corner of Sunset Boulevard in a chicken costume advertising a fast food restaurant. Sidney Poitier was told to stop wasting people's time and become a dishwasher at his first audition. Harrison Ford was told he didn't have what it took to be an actor and Oliver Stone dropped out of school, taught English in Vietnam and

So, maybe you ARE the next big thing. Maybe that idea or plan or vision is really going to change the world but eight now maybe nothing you are doing seems like you will ever be living your dream, achieving your goal or making your mark in the world. Keep one factor in mind...IF you GIVE UP, you are right. The only way to achieve a dream is to keep going despite the rejections, despite the roadblocks and despite the things you might currently have to do.
If you don't believe in yourself you will find it difficult or perhaps even impossible to convince someone else to believe in your dream. Maybe you haven't won your Oscar yet, maybe your best performance is yet to come or maybe it would just be nice to be recognized in a field among your peers for whatever talent you own. Regardless of what your goal is, you can be sure it will take hard work, sacrifice, disappointment, mistakes and rejections to get it right. That's what makes one successful; the stuff behind the scenes that make us who we are.
Maybe you are living the back story no one knows. Maybe you are overwhelmed by rejections and disappointments, stuck in a place you think could never get you to your dream. Keep seeing yourself holding your prize, getting your shot, being discovered, but don't just dream; start to work on whatever you want to accomplish, bit by bit, step by step and stay focused on that goal, regardless ,and you will be able to someday say thank you to all the people and circumstances that made you a winner.
You will be able to figuratively hear, "...and the award goes to______" and know it all paid off.
What do you see yourself accomplishing on your vision board?
What has been the most difficult part of realizing your "next big thing?"

5 Things To Do When You're On Fire
This is the final post for 2012. So I thought I would share some practical ideas that are essential when one is "on fire".
. I suggest the follow five actions be completed to be successful.
1. ASSESS the situation. Are you just dealing with a spark, smoldering or in complete inferno mode. Give yourself permission to decide whether you are just toying with a little spark and want nothing more or if you feel you are heading into much more explosive territory and are really excited about this possibility.
2. PLAN...After making your decision, determine what comes next. Is it time to learn more about going forward, make more contacts, share your plans, get more exposure or is it time to revamp and redirect your flame? Have you been just lighting match after match and getting a small spark but don't really have the desire to commit to more and need to basically ignore the urge to strike the match again or are you ready to keep that fire burning long into the future and need to determine what steps you take to get it to that stage? A plan keeps you from spinning your wheels and going no where. List what you need to put your fire out or to let it rage.
3. ACT...Don't just plan steps you will take. Be very proactive. Maybe this means breaking away from a past behavior, past associates, stagnation, poor choices, poor direction and stalled intentions. It could mean developing a specific schedule for starting off on a better foot, making the right contacts, developing a support system, spending time daily moving your flames in the direction you want. You can't stay on fire standing still, you will just burn out. So either douse your flames or gather the fuel you need to blaze. Action is commitment. You can't move forward standing still. It's not enough to have a plan if you don't act on it when it's time. You won't be any further ahead having a smoke alarm but freezing in space when you hear it go off. Something's burning...so get moving.
4. EVALUATE...Every time you act, you must evaluate whether your actions achieved what you hoped they would. Do you need to tweak your methods? Are you stuck fanning a flame that isn't growing? Do you need better fuel? Does that mean you need to connect with others who can help you grow or learn more about the resources that can spread your flames in new directions? Are you already spread too thin and can you blaze better if you concentrate on a specific niche rather than a broad spectrum? Look at your results and determine if the way you are handling your fire has the outcomes you wanted.5. CALL FOR HELP...No one expects you to handle a roaring blaze on your own. You need a team to put your fire in perspective. You need appropriate resources to deal with your flames. Be assertive. Seek our answers, support, ideas. Join forces with like minded individuals. Take courses, attend conferences, listen to webinars, seek mentors, and tell others what you need. Even strong burning fires need to add to the forces to grow them periodically. Are you ready to dial the proverbial "911" to ask for help in controlling the blaze? Do you need support to clean up what's left of a burned out life to help you move on to a more appealing scenario or is it time to request assistance because you can't handle your flame all alone anymore?
When you have a passion, an idea that won't let go, a goal you feel you must reach, you must take some definite steps to handle your fire. I hope this year you put out the flames that were never meant to be and ignite the sparks that are your true passions.
IN CASE OF FIRE...STOP procrastinating DROP your negativism or lack of faith and ROLL out your future plans today.
This time next year I want YOU sharing YOUR Trailblazer story!
If you want some great help in getting your fire from the spark stage to blazing and beyond come sign up for the CALLED WOMAN conference in March this year. You'll discover many ways to go from Fire starter to Trailblazer and connect with others who did the same.
What one of the 5 steps is holding you back from directing your fire in the way you want it to go?
What makes you ON FIRE?

Will Work For Dreams
This past weekend I had the opportunity to visit a church where a friend of mine was giving his first sermon. I got to know this young man through his mother, a friend of mine. I shared Brandon's story in my first book, ONE MORE SERVING . Brandon left a six figure income working as a rep in a large corporation to go to Guatemala and start a clinic. Although neither he nor his wife knew any Spanish, they uprooted life as they knew it and moved to a foreign country taking 2 small children and a dream to make life better for others. When Brandon returned to the States, he was offered an opportunity to return to his corporate position but instead, he continued to follow a dream he believed God had for him; this December will graduate from seminary.
Listening to his sermon, I recalled our interview several years ago. It was just days before his family's departure. With boxes piled around him, he was all smiles as he shared his story saying he felt he finally was doing what he was really meant to do.
Brandon's road was neither easy nor familiar. The new country was far different than the life Brandon left behind. Days and nights were unpredictable as he worked to build trust with those he barely knew. He moved 7 times in the past several years and worked harder than he ever imagined but there he was smiling and sharing how he was living his dream and not even one he believed was dreamed by him!
Sometimes making your passion happen means rolling up your sleeves and doing what you never imagined you might do.Turning a dream into a reality means commitment, planning, work and sweat and tears unlike any you might have known but few people who are living their passion would have it any other way. Most will tell you some obstacles seemed insurmountable and sometimes the dream seemed more like a nightmare and yet they pushed beyond the person they once were to become the person they wanted to be; they worked for dreams.
No one says following your passion will be easy or effortless however, if you are called to do something you feel passionate about, a plan will unfold and you will be given what you need to bring your dream to reality.
How about you? Are you willing to work, really work to realize your dreams?
What are you surprised you accomplished, given your passion?

5 REASONS TO JUST STOP TALKING ABOUT IT
Everyone at some point has had a dream he wished would evolve. Whether your dream is to have a new career, a new lifestyle, rally for a cause or simply develop a new perspective, here are
5 reasons why you should stop talking about your ideas or passions and start putting them into action.
1) If You Aren't Living Your Own Dream You Are Probably Living Someone Else's
Are you helping your employer reach a dream just wishing you could start yours? Are you instrumental in helping others achieve success but still thinking you don't have what it takes? Helping someone achieve their dream is a rewarding experience but if you never help yourself achieve yours, you are hiding your gifts and not willing to share with others.
2) True Passion Is Resilient
Maybe you have had the same idea in a different form for years. But if you continue to wonder what will happen if you step out of your box and give it your best shot, then maybe it is time to start the wheels turning. Even if you don't have all the resources, in this digital age there has never been an easier time to take the steps to move your dreams forward. I spell out some great steps to take in my latest newsletter.
3) There Is Never A Bad Time For An Idea To Start
There can be bad ideas and you will learn that as you experiment with yours but there never is a bad time for a new idea. Ideas, Dreams, Passions know no age. The world is full of children and adults who have committed to following a passion and made their world and the world of others a better place because of it.
4) Regret Is Far Worse Than Learning From A Mistake.
Nothing smacks below the belt as much as the regret we have because we didn't act on something.
Far better to make a mistake, give yourself a learning opportunity and move on than take your idea or dream to the grave with you. We create regrets; they don't just happen.
5) What You Don't Claim As Your Own Has The Right To Be Taken By Another.
You probably aren't the only person thinking about how to get an idea going. Nothing is worse than seeing something develop you had an idea for but never acted upon. If you don't open up that restaurant or tutoring service, develop your idea for a screenplay, begin that blog or develop that support group, someone else probably will...and then you will participate by THEIR rules!
Talk IS Cheap if that is all you do. Develop riches in your life...start to act!
It's your Dream your Idea, your Passion and it's your Move. Make it now.
Do you have any other reasons why you should start act on your passion NOW?

Ask and You Shall Perceive
Man thinking on a train journey. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
I thought they were all wonderful responses but I promised I would share 3 important questions to ask when thinking about whether to move forward with an entrepreneurial venture, an idea or a dream. First I think you should ask:
1. If Not Now...When?
Thinking... (Photo credit: Klearchos Kapoutsis)
2. If Not Here...Where?
Sometimes our circumstances are better in a different situation, another location, career opportunity, less stressful environment, removed from negative people and toxic behavior. This may mean you have to consider emotionally, physically and/or mentally removing yourself from the place that hampers your ability to make careful decisions and follow through. If you are constantly in a state of physical depletion, mental turmoil or emotional upheaval you will never be content with making decisions that could impact the rest of your life. If the place you are in now doesn't offer growth maybe it's time to relocate to a different mental, emotional or physical state before you can move on with your plans.
3. If Not Me...Who?
The Mirror (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
There is nothing worse than knowing something should be done about an issue, circumstance or concern and yet wondering who is going to do it. You can easily sit back and hope someone will come along and fix something that bothers your heart and soul or you can recognize that perhaps the reason you are so affected is because YOU are the person who is to "do something about it." Sometimes waiting for the right person is futile if you are the right person. The decision to move on with something important to you is often best resolved whenever you realize you do care and you can begin to attack the issue from your own point of view. Waiting for the next person to step up to bat could cost you a home run opportunity.
Waffling is dangerous when you let it go on and infest your life constantly causing you to remain in the same circumstance because you can't make the decisions you need for ending some things and beginning others. Asking yourself some important questions and NOT waffling about what you realize after you discover the answers is always a good decision.

IN THE COMPANY OF MILLIONAIRES
Did you win the MEGA MILLIONS on Friday? I most certainly think you would hardly be reading this post or even be spending time doing much of your typical daily "stuff" if you were the one with a winning ticket. But,you are probably more like me; dreaming of what might have been if you had hit the "big one".
People get so excited imagining all the things that would change in their lives and yet it is so easy to forget how many priceless things we all possess even winning the MEGA MILLIONS could not replace.
Several years ago, someone asked me if I considered myself a millionaire. I laughed and told them I would hardly think I was even brushing shoulders within that category whenever he asked me if I would sell my eyes for a million dollars. When I emphatically responded, "Absolutely not!", he went on to ask if I would consider giving up my ability to walk or talk for a million. "That's just crazy," I said, "Why would anyone give up the ability to walk independently or communicate for a million dollars?"
Then he mentioned since I was so adamant I would not part with what I considered a vital part of my existence, I must already be a millionaire. I obviously had many possessions I would never exchange for any amount of money. The questions really made an impact and so I ask you the same.
Would you exchange your spouse, parents or children for a million dollars? Would you sell your soul for a cool million or give up everything you consider precious and priceless for the chance to have big bucks? While money can be a great incentive most people would never choose to surrender the simple freedoms and opportunities we know in life or the ability to walk, talk, see, hear or love for a chunk of cash.
We all possess countless "riches" we take for granted, not realizing how priceless having sight might be to someone who has never seen their loved one's face or speech might be to someone who has never been able to truly communicate the way they feel spontaneously. We hug our loved ones and enjoy our time with our families, forgetting how many people live in dysfunctional situations without the support of those they love or constantly in fear of people who care little for them. Millions of dollars could never replace losing a loved one, giving up our independence, forgoing our senses or simply abandoning the countless joys we take for granted daily because we don't see ourselves as rich as we truly are.
So, maybe today you are still dreaming about what could change if suddenly you had riches beyond your imaginations or maybe you realize you already have everything you really need to go after your dreams.
We seldom realize our blessings until they are gone. We seldom count our riches while we are still in the midst of enjoying them. It is easy to look at life as less than amazing when you wake each day without realizing how incredibly rich you already are.
Countless individuals have gone after a dream, achieved a major goal or committed to living a life with complete purpose and passion who also have never held a winning ticket in their hands. It's not about having what you want, but really about wanting what you have.
You hardly need a winning ticket to be rich, you just need a winning attitude and the riches you already have piled in front of you daily. I don't know about you but, I feel far wealthier since I was asked those questions than I ever thought I was.
There are simply some things I would never ever exchange for any amount of money How about you?
Do you have a fortune in blessings and a wealth of experiences that no money could ever replace?
See your riches in the light you are meant to see them and you will be amazed how many treasures you have to get your dream started even without the winning ticket.

How To Be Your Own Best Zen
zen (Photo credit: mkebbe)
I am a perfect example of needing to use my intuition and self-contemplation to change a behavior. You see, I often have had to go dumpster diving when I have tried to multitask something rather than attend to one thing at a time. It seems I always misplace something while multitasking, especially when I try to clean up while I am doing other things. I would be trying to clean up from unpacking groceries or while trying to feed the dog and later realize I couldn't locate a gift card I purchased or a can of peas or most recently, a light bulb. Years ago, I would be trying to clear off my desk after a busy day at the office so I could get home quickly for my children's activities and I would need to return to the office later in the evening to rescue checks I had been given from the trash! Concert tickets, once thought lost, were discovered in the wastebasket near my desk after I remembered was filing away papers and clearing off my desk while talking on the phone.
Recently, I received a coupon from a jeweler I use. The coupon offered to clean and repair any damaged posts on rings for a reduced rate. I had just been thinking about taking my wedding rings in to be checked whenever I came across the coupon and decided to use it. My rings require a combination of dish detergent and extra effort to remove and so I made sure I had already taken them off and put them in a container before I even got to the jeweler's.
But, the day was much more busy than I planned and everything did not go as expected, it was nearly time for the jeweler to close when I arrived at the store. Not being able to locate the coupon was a minor problem, as I realized the container with my rings was no where to be found. I turned the car upside down trying to locate it while I watched the jeweler hang his "Closed" sign on the door. Then, I remembered I had put all the incidental odds and ends I didn't need anymore in a bag in my car and dumped it promptly in the trash can at the post office where I had stopped previously.
"My ring is in the trash at the post office!" I frantically thought. But it was far too late to go back as they had closed as well. In my mind I thought of how I was going to tell my husband I had lost the rings. I felt clammy and distracted the entire way home and was nearly in tears when I reached my house. As I started to unload the groceries into the kitchen, I saw the small pill container I had dropped my rings into still on the kitchen counter. I had forgotten to take them with me as I went to complete all my errands. Needless to say, the rings are back on my finger and not coming off until I am standing in front of the jeweler.
Image via Wikipedia
When my husband arrived home and asked me how my day was, I quickly said, "Well I learned something I should always remember, today!.....Stop cleaning up!"
Obviously, my Zen was not to stop cleaning up but to pay more attention to each individual task than to try and knock off several at a time. I can't help but think that is how we often go about deciding how to pursue something important in our lives. We don't take the time for the internal contemplation. We don't assess our our style and behavior to make sure we are going about it in a way that is complimentary to our personality and allows the best to be brought out in the process and we sometimes don't look at what didn't work in the past and allow it to be a teaching experience. We are so busy with everything instead of what really needs our undivided attention. Sometimes we are far from our own best zen.

START SOMETHING
Starbucks (Photo credit: Ivana Di Carlo)
I took the magazine home and shared my enthusiastic interest in perhaps owning a Starbucks with my husband, who immediately asked what may have seemed a logical question especially since he is not a coffee drinker, "What person in his right mind is going to pay 3 to 4 dollars for a cup of coffee?" This still did not deter me from visiting a still empty kiosk in an up and coming shopping center regularly and imagining my Starbucks on that very spot.
But I had a small child and another on the way and it did seem impractical to invest money in a fancy coffee shop. Who knew (I'd like to think I did!)the biggest boom in gourmet coffee was just around the corner and so were many more franchises as within a year someone else turned the kiosk into a Starbucks and well, the rest is history.
Coffee cup (Photo credit: @Doug88888)
One thing I learned is dreaming and talking and wistfully thinking about what could be will never make it happen. If you have something you have always wanted to try then maybe it's time to put some wheels in motion. Maybe you want to start a business, start taking better care of yourself, start a group, start rallying for a cause, start making money from a hobby, start a new career, start a family or even start over.
Image via Wikipedia
Whatever is calling you will never get off the ground if you don't start. Start something.
Start looking into opportunities, start investigating, start getting experience, start talking to others who have done the same, start making a plan, start investing, start trying, start looking at options, start getting the word out, start packing...Start something.
You can bet I hear the Start Something mantra loud and clear on days when I am the one choosing to pay 3 or 4 dollars for my Starbucks coffee!
What about you? Do you have a Starbucks story too?
What do you wish you would've started? What do you need to get started doing?

SUPER BOWL GOAL
Image by Getty Images via @daylife
The ten top broadcasts in history have included 9 Super Bowls and the final episode of the sitcom, MASH.
Whether you tune it to watch the commercials, half-time show, the game or even just to see what all the hype is about...It's a big day!
Image via Wikipedia
And no matter whether you care who wins, even support the teams playing or know who is playing, millions upon millions of dollars will be raked in by the winners, losers and even by players who won't even be part of the game. Let's face it, few people can earn what a professional sports player may make in a few games.
Given these awesome statistics, I have to wonder why more people allow a few hours and some skilled players to get more attention regularly than they give to thinking about their own lives, goals and aspirations. When was the last time you even took a few hours to really get excited about what was going on in your life? Isn't your life and what you hope to accomplish more important than the Super Bowl? Doesn't it make a difference to you what happens in your life more than what happens on some field? And shouldn't your skills be worth some significant "moo-laa." at well?

Of course it should! So, at some point today, ask yourself if I had as much money as these players, what would I do? Aside from the typical; pay off my bills, etc. Imagine that all you had to do was think of what you would do with this money. Then ask yourself if money is the only thing stopping you, because in many many cases, our biggest obstacles to achieving a goal is not money...it's our perception of what we can and can't do.
If you think you cannot reach a goal or achieve a dream, you have lost your edge for the most critical part. That's why teams get a pep talk before a game. Telling someone they can't achieve a goal or have no ability to become successful or even plan how to develop a dream is mental poison and yet often that is what we allow ourselves to accept. We fill ourselves with a mental poison and say, "I'll never get to this stage.", "I am too old or poor or uneducated to try this." or even,"Why bother dreaming when this will never happen."If Eli Manning or Tom Brady thought that most of their lives, I hardly imagine they would be where they are today.
Think about what you would do and then write down all the things that will help you get there or close to there and don't dwell on the money but more on the attitude; more on what you believe you can do.Because you can't reach a Super Goal if you don't even think you can plan the game and if you start with a winning attitude maybe, just maybe your will think you are worth oh so much more hype than a few players are on a field for a few hours. Maybe just maybe, planning for your game will be just as important as watching this one.
What's your Super Goal and what is stopping you from winning?
